The favored gathering place of Trump supporters — and a magnet for conflict of interest questions — will become a Waldorf Astoria.

Twitter erupted in celebration after news broke that Donald Trump’s Washington DC Hotel had come to end, and videos and images posted online show the former president’s name being taken down from the building.

According to The New York Times, “The favored gathering place of Trump supporters — and a magnet for conflict of interest questions — is officially out of business.”

The development comes after the Trump family completed the sale of its leasing rights to a Miami investor group, which plans to reopen it as a Waldorf Astoria,” The Times reported Wednesday.

The hotel is in the Old Post Office. A lease was awarded to the Trump Organization by the federal government ahead of the 2016 presidential election.

The Times quoted hotel industry experts saying that the hotel “underperformed compared with other luxury hotels in the city, particularly since President Donald Trump left office, in part because some companies and travelers were reluctant to book rooms or hold events at the hotel given the controversies surrounding Mr. Trump.”

“Those factors most likely contributed to the decision to sell the lease, they said, the newspaper reported.
