Elon Musk walked into the Oval Office on Friday with a black eye. The tech billionaire stood next to President Trump, smiling in an all-black outfit and a “DOGE” hat, with a clear bruise under his right eye.
When a reporter asked what happened, Musk didn’t hesitate: “I was just horsing around with little X and I said, ‘Go ahead, punch me in the face.’ And he did. Turns out even a 5-year-old punching you in the face actually does…,” Musk said.
The Tesla and SpaceX CEO blamed the bruise on his young son, X Æ A-Xii, often just called “X.” The two were apparently play-fighting when Musk dared him to take a swing. X did — and it landed.
Trump, sitting at the Resolute Desk, laughed. “That was X that did that? X could do it. If you knew X, he could do it,” he said.
Musk explained that X is now with his mother, but he’s no stranger to the White House. The child was seen in the Oval Office back in February and has even joined the president aboard Marine One.
“But, I didn’t really feel much at the time, and then I guess it bruises up,” Musk said. “But I was just horsing around with the kid.”
“I didn’t notice, actually,” Trump added.
Before the formal event, Musk pointed at his eye and laughed with reporters: “I’ve got a little shiner here.”
The remark came after someone brought up French President Emmanuel Macron, who was recently filmed getting hit in the face by his wife during what he called “joking around,” according to The New York Times.
