Tech mogul Elon Musk is scaling back his pledge to support former President Trump’s campaign, stating that his contributions are now “considerably reduced” compared to initial reports.
Musk had reportedly pledged $45 million per month to America PAC, a group he co-founded with other conservative donors. This announcement coincided with Trump’s selection of Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) as his vice-presidential running mate.
During an interview with Jordan Peterson on Tuesday, Musk disputed the $45 million figure circulating in the media. “What’s been reported is simply not true,” he asserted.
On his social media platform X, Musk reiterated his support for America PAC but declined to specify the exact amount of his contributions.
“I am making some donations to America PAC, but at a much lower level and the key values of the PAC are supporting a meritocracy & individual freedom,” he confirmed. “Republicans are mostly, but not entirely, on the side of merit & freedom.”
This move contrasts with Musk’s earlier decision to refrain from involvement in the 2024 election. Last week, he publicly endorsed Trump following an assassination attempt on the former president.
Reports also suggest a deepening relationship between Musk and Trump, with discussions reportedly held regarding a potential advisory role for Musk in a prospective Trump administration.
