Elon Musk is catching heat for what critics are calling a “child-like” apology posted in the dead of night, as he tried to walk back his latest feud with Donald Trump.
Just days ago, Musk took aim at Trump and a bill the president supports, calling it a “disgusting abomination.” The feud quickly exploded online. Musk even suggested without evidence that Trump was tied to Jeffrey Epstein and threatened to “drop the really big bomb.” That post has since been deleted.
Now, Musk seems to be trying to cool things down.
“I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week,” Musk wrote on X at 3:04 a.m. “They went too far.”
CNN’s Erica Hill called it out immediately.
“Well, it turns out regrets, he’s got a few,” Hill said on CNN This Morning, poking fun at the late-night timing of Musk’s backtrack. She compared his tone to a kid realizing they’ve gone too far.
“That is probably like the most perfect response you could have from one of your kids when they realize they messed up — like, ‘Oh, hey – I went too far,’” Hill said.
Musk didn’t say which posts he regretted. But deleting the Epstein threat may be one of them.

Former GOP Congressman Charlie Dent slammed Musk’s entire involvement in government talks — not just the tweets.
“Of course, he has to have regrets, not just about the tweets, but about the whole DOGE process,” Dent said. “He said he was going to find $2 trillion in savings… then they talk about bringing out wood chippers and there’s the chainsaw… Then you wonder why people don’t want to buy your cars.”
Dent went further, blasting Musk for pushing cuts that could hurt the poor, while posing as a government reformer.
“You’ve got the wealthiest man in the world denying food assistance and medical help to some of the most desperately poor people,” Dent said. “So he’s got a lot to think about.”
For now, Musk’s 3 a.m. apology is doing little to fix the damage. Instead, it’s fueling more ridicule — and raising more questions about his judgment.
