Elon Musk, the world’s wealthiest man and incoming head of President-elect Donald Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency, unleashed a fiery defense of Rep. Matt Gaetz early Tuesday morning, endorsing him as the perfect choice to be the next U.S. Attorney General, specifically citing his desire for vengeance as a good thing.
In a blistering social media post, Musk called Gaetz “the Judge Dredd America needs” and hailed him as a ruthless “Hammer of Justice” to dismantle what he called a corrupt system.
In his post, made on X (formerly Twitter) around 2:00 a.m., Musk described Gaetz as having the “big brain” and “steel spine” needed to take on the entrenched Washington elite.
“Matt Gaetz has 3 critical assets that are needed for the AG role: a big brain, a spine of steel, and an axe to grind. He is the Judge Dredd America needs to clean up a corrupt system and put powerful bad actors in prison,” Musk wrote. “Gaetz will be our Hammer of Justice.”
But it was Musk’s scathing attack on Garland that really grabbed attention. The billionaire went all-in, calling the current Attorney General an (unprincipled douchebag) and suggesting that Garland had failed to bring charges against Gaetz because he knew the accusations didn’t hold up.
“As for these accusations against Gaetz,” Musk continued, referring to the multiple allegations of sexual misconduct and trafficking, “I consider them worth less than nothing. Under our laws, a man is considered innocent until proven guilty. If AG Garland could have secured a conviction against Gaetz, he would have, but he knew he could not. Case closed.”
The post is likely to spark intense backlash, considering the gravity of the allegations against Gaetz. Despite Musk’s firm defense, the congressman is embroiled in a string of legal troubles, including accusations of paying for sex, engaging with minors, and obstructing investigations into his conduct. Gaetz’s critics argue these allegations are too serious to overlook, raising questions about his fitness for the role of the nation’s top law enforcement officer.
Gaetz is also facing significant hurdles in his bid for confirmation as Attorney General. His limited legal experience, combative political style, and the ongoing investigations into his alleged misconduct make him a deeply polarizing figure on Capitol Hill.
On top of that, Gaetz’s recent resignation from Congress, just days after Trump announced his nomination, has raised eyebrows. The resignation allowed him to avoid a vote by the House Ethics Committee on whether to release a report detailing allegations of sexual misconduct, drug use, and improper favors given to personal associates. Once Gaetz resigned, the Ethics Committee lost jurisdiction over the investigation.
Despite the legal storm surrounding him, Gaetz remains defiant, with his allies, including Musk, rallying around him in their quest for retribution.
