Elon Musk has wiped out several of his posts on X (formerly Twitter) as his war of words with President Donald Trump hit a boiling point. The move came after Trump issued a direct warning to the tech billionaire, threatening “very serious consequences” if Musk backed Democratic candidates to undermine Trump’s “big, beautiful bill.”

“If he does, he’ll have to pay the consequences for that,” Trump told NBC News on Saturday. “He’ll have to pay very serious consequences.”

Gone are some of Musk’s most explosive claims—like accusing Trump of being in the “Epstein files,” and saying, “mark this post for the future.” He also deleted a post suggesting Trump should be impeached and replaced with Vice President JD Vance, as well as another where he accused Trump of lying about Musk’s opposition to a recent bill. Even a threat to shut down SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft has disappeared.

The Daily Boulder tracked the posts as they unfolded Wednesday and Thursday. Musk started by blasting Trump’s “one big, beautiful bill” as a “disgusting abomination.” Those posts are gone from X—but still viewable on The Daily Boulder’s website.

Not everything’s been scrubbed, though. Musk kept up posts slamming Trump’s policy bill and warning that Trump’s tariffs could drag the U.S. into a recession later this year.

One post that’s still live reads: “I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore. This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.”

Meanwhile, behind the scenes, Trump has been asking his team if Musk’s recent behavior could be tied to drug use, according to a source close to the former president. Publicly, Trump has brushed it off—but privately, he’s trying to figure out what’s behind Musk’s sudden barrage.

The feud is far from over. But Musk’s decision to erase some of his own firebombs suggests he’s feeling the heat.
