Dramatic footage from Wednesday morning shows the terrifying moment when an American Airlines Boeing 737 suffered a tire explosion just seconds before takeoff at Tampa International Airport. Passengers watched in disbelief as one of the aircraft’s tires burst into flames while the plane accelerated down the runway. The pilot swiftly aborted takeoff, bringing the aircraft to a screeching halt as emergency responders rushed to the scene.
Flight 590 bound for Phoenix was abruptly canceled due to what the airline described as a “mechanical issue” during pre-takeoff procedures, the airline said in a statement. Despite the alarming incident, all passengers safely disembarked and were transported to the terminal via bus.
“We never want to disrupt our customers’ travel plans and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused,” American Airlines stated in response to the disruption, emphasizing their commitment to passenger safety and comfort.
Meanwhile, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has launched an investigation into the incident, citing reports of “multiple blown tires” from the flight crew.
