President Donald Trump is in full panic mode after Iran threatened to shut down a key oil shipping route. On Monday, he took to Truth Social, urging oil suppliers around the world to keep prices low.
“EVERYONE, KEEP OIL PRICES DOWN. I’M WATCHING! YOU’RE PLAYING RIGHT INTO THE HANDS OF THE ENEMY. DON’T DO IT!” Trump wrote, using all caps to hammer his point.
He posted the warning just minutes after praising a Fox News interview, suggesting he was watching TV at the time.
Trump followed it up with another message aimed at the federal government: “To The Department of Energy: DRILL, BABY, DRILL!!! And I mean NOW!!!”
His outburst came one day after the Iranian parliament voted to close the Strait of Hormuz — a narrow passage between Iran and Oman that handles about 20% of the world’s oil shipments. Iran hasn’t made a final move yet, but the threat alone sent oil prices climbing late Sunday.
By Monday morning, prices cooled off slightly, but the fear hasn’t gone away. If Iran follows through, it could choke global oil supply and trigger a major spike in gas prices.
At the White House, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt didn’t say whether the U.S. would tap into emergency oil reserves. But she made it clear that Washington is watching closely.
“I can assure you the administration is actively and closely monitoring the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, and the Iranian regime would be foolish to make that decision,” Leavitt said.
GasBuddy.com is already warning drivers to brace for a rise at the pump — predicting a national average hike of 10 to 30 cents in the coming days.
With the Middle East on edge, and oil markets jittery, Trump’s all-caps plea paints a clear picture: he’s nervous, and he wants the world to listen.
