President Donald Trump on Monday bragged about his economic record Tuesday in a campaign-style speech to a global forum, claiming that he “rescued” the global economy from recession.
Touting his record, Trump cited tax cuts, regulation reductions, immigration changes, and new trade deals involving China, Canada, and Mexico. At times, his rhetoric echoed his re-election campaign speeches.
At one point, Trump declared he “saved” Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
“We saved them. They were going out and we saved them,” he said.
The president also told reporters before his remarks that the impeachment is “just a hoax” and “a witch hunt that’s been going on for years.”
Trump’s remarks came as the Senate prepared to open an impeachment trial against him,
