Donald Trump Jr. and Trump election attorney Rudy Giuliani have been officially served with court papers in a lawsuit brought by former Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman for “witness intimidation and retaliation” over his role in the first impeachment of then-President Donald Trump.
The lawsuit also includes former White House Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino and former Trump White House official Julia Hahn, ABC News reported Wednesday.
Lt. Col. Vindman, who was one of the few officials to directly listen into the July 2019 phone call between former President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, accuses the defendants of violating sections 1 and 2 of the Ku Klux Klan Act, which is intended to bar threats or intimidation against government officials carrying out their constitutional duties.
The officer says the defendants engaged in “an intentional, concerted campaign of unlawful intimidation and retaliation” in connection to his role in the first impeachment of then-President Donald Trump.
“This campaign of intimidation and retaliation has had severe and deeply personal ramifications for Lt. Col. Vindman,” the lawsuit claims, according to ABC News. “It also left a stain on our democracy,” it states.
Vindman is asking the judge to award him financial damages in an amount that would be determined after trial.
