Conservative strategist Jonah Goldberg slammed Fox News host Harris Faulkner for comparing President Donald Trump’s tariffs to a “war effort.”

Goldberg, who has been critical of Trump’s tariffs, took to social media to blast Faulkner after she made the comparison on Outnumbered. “I like Harris Faulkner. But I’ve been writing about the fallacy of ‘moral equivalent of war’ arguments for three decades,” Goldberg posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Faulkner made her comments in response to concerns from Americans about how the tariffs might affect their 401(k)s. She tried to reassure viewers, saying the markets were just a “snapshot” and urged people to “do a 100% buy-in over this bumpy period.”

Faulkner’s comments came on a day that Trump has repeatedly called “Liberation Day,” as the president imposed steep tariffs on imports from several countries, triggering threats of retaliatory measures.

Faulkner told viewers: “So part of that deal is to making sure your ‘shareholders’ — the actual people, not by money, but by vote — understand what’s coming. And those 401(k) people who are depending, those retirees, all of that — just talking plain speak with them.”

Then, she added: “Look, when this nation used to go to war, people in this country would support the war effort with their materials at home and making things for weaponry and all of that. We gotta do 100% buy-in over this bumpy period — just communicate.”

Goldberg didn’t hold back in criticizing her comparison. He called it “ridiculous” and pointed out there’s no proof that these “bumpy” tariff battles will lead to personal benefits for Americans. “We are not at war with our allied trading partners. Not even a little. Beyond that, the assumption here is that it is obvious things will dramatically and broadly improve for those 401K owners once we get through ‘the bumpy period.’ Zero evidence for that. Lots of evidence against it,” Goldberg wrote.

He wrapped up his response by saying, “There is no reason to carry water for Trump on this nonsense.”
