CNN anchor Chris Wallace believes that former President Trump is avoiding another debate with Vice President Kamala Harris because he felt “scared” during their first encounter as Harris made him look weak and unhinged.

Speaking on “The View,” Wallace addressed Trump’s decision to back out of a scheduled “60 Minutes” interview—an unprecedented move for a presidential candidate in over five decades.

I have a gut feeling,” Wallace said. “And my gut feeling is that debate on some level scared Donald Trump, and he realized that, one, giving a platform to Kamala Harris is a bad idea, which is why he’s not going to do another debate which would attract 50, 60, 70 million people.”

“And if he were to appear on ’60 Minutes’ alongside her, people were going to, one, compare them, and, two, it was going to attract a bigger audience,” he continued.

The first debate between Trump and Harris took place on September 10 and was widely viewed as a victory for Harris. Following that, Trump announced he would not participate in any further debates.

“I think he’s a little bit scared about being seen and compared to Kamala Harris,” he emphasize. Wallace pointed out the tight race between the two candidates, suggesting that Trump prefers to stick with his tried-and-true strategy of rallying his supporters rather than risking a debate that could bolster Harris’s standing.

He commented on Harris’s need to solidify her message and address lingering voter questions. He praised her strong debate performance and fundraising efforts but noted she must now focus on closing the sale with the electorate to secure her political future.

“It feels to me like she has plateaued, and she has to find a way to kind of close the sale,” Wallace said. “Close the sale about what she would do and who she is because I think people still have questions about that.”

With the election approaching and both candidates nearly tied in polls—Harris holding a slight lead of 2.9 percent, according to multiple polls.
