On Sunday, Black Lives Matters protesters in Bristol toppled a statue of 17th-century slave trader Edward Colston, whose company transported more than 100,000 slaves from West Africa to the Caribbean and the Americas between 1672 and 1689.
Video footage shows demonstrators attaching a rope to the statue, pulled it down and rolled it into the city’s harbour as people cheer.
It comes as thousands of protesters gather across the UK to march against racism following the death of George Floyd, a black man who was murdered by police in Minneapolis.
