President Joe Biden made waves at a rally with Vice President Kamala Harris, where he debuted a new nickname for former President Donald Trump: “Donald Dump.” The event marked Biden and Harris’s first joint appearance since Biden withdrew from the 2024 presidential race, clearing the way for Harris to lead the Democratic ticket.

The rally, held at a community college in Largo, Maryland, featured Biden and Harris making a grand entrance to Bruce Springsteen’s “We Take Care of Our Own.” The enthusiastic crowd, holding signs advocating for lower prescription drug costs, greeted the pair with cheers and applause.

Harris, speaking first, highlighted the administration’s achievements in healthcare and praised Biden as an “extraordinary human being” while introducing him. Biden, in turn, expressed strong support for Harris, calling her “going to make one hell of a president.”

The President didn’t miss the opportunity to take a jab at his former rival, Donald Trump, for his stance on healthcare reforms. Biden highlighted that Trump and his allies are working to undo the progress achieved under his administration.

“The guy we’re running against, what’s his name? Donald Dump or Donald, whatever, they want to get rid of this, what we passed,” Biden remarked, referring to the administration’s healthcare cost initiatives.

Biden also criticized the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025, which Trump has distanced himself from, asserting that Republicans are working to benefit big pharmaceutical companies. “Let me tell you what our Project 2025 is. Beat the hell out of them. I mean it,” Biden declared.

The rally focused on celebrating the first round of Medicare drug price negotiations, which are projected to save about $6 billion. This achievement is seen as a significant win for Democrats, who have campaigned on lowering healthcare costs through the Inflation Reduction Act, signed into law by Biden in 2022.

The crowd’s energy was palpable, with chants of “thank you Joe!” resonating throughout the event, especially when Harris commended Biden for his efforts to reduce drug prices. Harris acknowledged Biden’s contributions and emphasized the importance of moving forward in their fight for affordable healthcare.

Looking ahead, Biden is set to speak at the Democratic National Convention on Monday, with Harris scheduled to formally accept the presidential nomination in Chicago on Thursday. This follows Biden’s recent decision to step aside from the race and endorse Harris as the Democratic candidate.
