In a high-profile press conference, President Joe Biden stumbled over his words, mistakenly referring to former President Donald Trump instead of Vice President Kamala Harris, prompting swift reactions from political circles.
During scripted remarks, Biden faced his first question from reporters about Kamala Harris’ potential to lead, should she take over the ticket. Biden’s response, “I wouldn’t have picked Vice President Trump to be vice president, though I think she was not qualified to be president,” left many puzzled.
The video clip quickly spread online, catching the attention of Donald Trump and his allies. Trump himself took to Truth Social to gleefully share the moment, mocking Biden’s slip-up. “Crooked Joe begins his ‘Big Boy’ Press Conference with, ‘I wouldn’t have picked Vice President Trump to be vice president, though I think she was not qualified to be president.’ Great job, Joe!” Trump posted.
Throughout the conference, Trump continued to taunt Biden, highlighting other verbal fumbles such as Biden referring to his military chief-of-staff as “my Commander-In-Chief.”
After the event, Trump further criticized Biden, accusing him of having “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” a familiar label from Trump’s playbook.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump Jr. offered a surprising assessment of Biden’s performance, suggesting he was “doing OK” and could remain a viable candidate in 2024. His comments hinted at a strategic preference within the Trump camp to face Biden rather than Harris in the upcoming election.
Other members of the Trump family, however, focused on Biden’s mix-up between Trump and Harris. Eric Trump expressed his astonishment online, while Kimberly Guilfoyle criticized Biden’s political career, asserting, “Barely-there Biden: ‘I don’t want to sound self-serving. Biden’s entire career has been self serving – for himself and his corrupt family. Unfit for office on so many levels.”
In response to the gaffe, Biden acknowledged the slip but reaffirmed his understanding of the distinction between Harris and Trump. “One’s a prosecutor, and the other’s a felon,” his official account retorted on X.
By the way: Yes, I know the difference.
