Law enforcement officials are actively searching for an Arizona resident accused of issuing threats against former President Donald Trump. According to authorities Ronald Syvrud allegedly posted threats to kill the presidential candidate on social media, although the specific platforms have not been disclosed by the officials.
Before Trump’s visit to the border, law enforcement briefed his team about the ongoing search for Syvrud, a source familiar with the situation told reporters.
Syvrud, 66, is wanted on several outstanding warrants, including charges related to DUI, felony hit and run, and failing to register as a sex offender. He is from Benson, Arizona, a city located approximately 50 miles southeast of Tucson.
It is currently unknown whether Syvrud is still in Cochise County, and the sheriff’s office is requesting the public’s assistance in locating him.
“If you have any information about Syvrud’s whereabouts, please contact your local law enforcement agency or dial 9-1-1,” the sheriff’s office stated in a Facebook post.
Trump is currently in Cochise County for a speech at the U.S.-Mexico border.
In addition to aiding state and federal agencies with security for Trump’s visit, the sheriff’s office has allocated extra investigative resources to find Syvrud.
