GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger, of Illinois, tore into House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, calling his fellow Republican “a man with no moral core” for backing a pro-Trump primary challenger to Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) over her service on the Select Committee probing the Jan 6 attack on the US Capitol by a MAGA mob.
McCarthy on Thursday made a highly unusual announcement as House GOP leader, saying he’s endorsing a primary opponent of an incumbent lawmaker of his own party.
Kinzinger wasted no time slamming the move, writing on Twitter: “Kevin McCarthy… at one point fancied himself the new generation conservative for reaching out to Silicon Valley, etc. Now, we see he is a man with no moral core. Sad to see, honestly. Not the man I thought I knew. Sleep [probably] doesn’t come easily to him.”
McCarthy’s decision to back Cheney’s primary challenger came days after the Republican National Committee passed a censure resolution condemning both Cheney and Kinzinger for serving in the House Jan 6 Panel.
Both Cheney and Kinzinger have vowed to continue their work on the committee until the truth is exposed despite facing relentless attacks by members of their own party.
