President Donald Trump appeared ready to dismiss a female reporter’s question as “fake news.” Then he learned which news outlet she represented—and suddenly, his tone changed.
The awkward exchange unfolded when Mary Margaret Olohan, a White House correspondent for the conservative outlet *The Daily Wire*, asked Trump about French President Emmanuel Macron and reports concerning unrest in France.
Trump initially pushed back against the premise of the question, calling it “fake news.” He then asked Olohan which outlet she worked for.
When she identified The Daily Wire, Trump’s response took a noticeably different turn.
“Oh, Daily Wire is good,” he said, before adding, “Sorry, Daily Wire is good.”
The exchange offered a revealing moment as Trump, who frequently attacks journalists and news organizations he considers hostile to him, appeared to soften his response after learning the reporter worked for a conservative publication.
But Trump soon returned to the substance of the question, describing Macron as “a friend of mine” and blaming immigration for unrest in France.
The moment triggered a wave of mockery online, with many questioning whether Trump would have reacted the same way if the reporter had identified herself as working for a news outlet he regularly criticizes.
Watch the moment here:
Q: Macron is blaming the Iran war and you for the rioting in France–
TRUMP: That’s fake news. Who are you with?
Q: No, sir. Mary Margaret with the Daily Wire
TRUMP: Oh, the Daily Wire is good. Sorry. Daily Wire is good. https://t.co/NsauCmI4Tg
