Donald Trump’s latest Truth Social tirade about artificial intelligence was so chaotic that it prompted a fresh call for the 25th Amendment to be invoked against him.
Trump spent much of Monday firing off a bizarre series of posts about AI, data centers, oil prices, Russia, Ukraine, Iran and his proposed $5,000 “Trump Dividend.”
But it was his increasingly heated rant about artificial intelligence that really set things off.
“The only control or ‘guardrails’ that AI needs is a STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT, and the U.S.A. has that, in spades!” Trump wrote.
He then went after Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, who had recently called for slowing the development of increasingly powerful AI systems so researchers can develop better safeguards.
Trump accused Amodei of pretending to be a “perfect little angel” and claimed there was a “SICK conspiracy” against AI and data centers that was benefiting China.
“WHOEVER WINS AI, WINS!” Trump declared, warning “Conspiracy Theorists, Treasonists, Traitors, and Leakers” to “BEWARE!”
The posts quickly drew attention because Trump wasn’t simply arguing against additional AI regulation. He was presenting himself as essentially the only guardrail the technology needs.
In another lengthy post, Trump dismissed concerns that AI could eventually pose an existential threat to humanity as a “HOAX” and argued that AI and the data centers powering it could become the “Greatest Economic Development Engine in History.”
That prompted a blunt response from MeidasTouch co-founder Ben Meiselas.
“Is this not the most ridiculous crap you’ve ever heard?” Meiselas said in a video shared on X.
Then he went considerably further.
“Can y’all just impeach and remove and 25th Amendment this guy and throw this criminal in jail where he belongs?” he said.
Meiselas then cited a series of criticisms of Trump, including his civil liability for sexual abuse and fraud and his history of business bankruptcies.
The 25th Amendment call came as Trump’s Truth Social feed became increasingly difficult to follow.
At one point, Trump declared that concerns about AI destroying the world were another “hoax,” lumping them together with climate change, the Russia investigation and his two impeachments.
“The claim that ‘AI is going to take over the World’ is a Hoax,” Trump wrote, before launching into another attack on Democrats and declaring that voters had hopefully “seen the light.”
In another post, Trump claimed that AI critics were “Revolutionaries” working for people who did not have the best interests of the United States in mind.
His AI posts came amid a broader fight over how quickly the technology should be developed.
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has argued that the industry needs stronger safeguards and a slower pace of development as AI systems become increasingly capable. Other technology leaders have also raised concerns about the risks of pushing ahead without adequate protections.
Trump, however, took the opposite approach.
He insisted that the United States already has enough regulatory and criminal authority over AI companies and suggested that the biggest safeguard the industry needs is simply a “STRONG AND SMART” president.
Then there were the other posts.
Trump blamed the Russia-Ukraine war for rising diesel prices, saying Ukraine and Russia had agreed not to attack each other’s energy infrastructure. Neither country had publicly confirmed the agreement when he made the claim.
He also doubled down on his promise of a $5,000 dividend for Americans if Republicans retain control of Congress after the midterms.
That proposal has already drawn questions about how it would be funded. FactCheck.org noted that Trump’s proposed tariff revenue would not be enough to cover the estimated $1.2 trillion cost of the payments over the timeframe he has described.
And then there was Iran.
Trump claimed Iran once again wanted to “badly” make a deal, adding yet another foreign-policy declaration to a day already packed with posts about AI, oil and domestic politics.
By the end of it, Trump’s Truth Social feed had become a rapid-fire collection of grievances, warnings, boasts and accusations — with the president repeatedly presenting himself as the person uniquely capable of sorting everything out.
