Abdul El-Sayed isn’t exactly taking the high road after Trump called him “full of shit.” The Michigan Democratic Senate candidate has found an unusual way to fight back against President Donald Trump: talking trash about Trump’s alleged smell.
And yes, things have gotten pretty gross.
Earlier this month, Trump appeared in Michigan to campaign for Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers, where he took a shot at El-Sayed, a Muslim and Democratic Socialist, calling him “full of shit.”
El-Sayed’s response? “At least I don’t let mine go in the middle of the Oval Office.”
The joke was a reference to recent viral speculation and commentary about Trump’s apparent flatulence and alleged body odor.
And El-Sayed apparently wasn’t done. The smell jokes keep coming
Trump has been the subject of plenty of unflattering comments about his alleged odor.
Former Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger once described Trump’s smell as a combination of “armpits, ketchup, makeup and a little butt.”
Comedian Kathy Griffin has also compared Trump’s alleged odor to a combination of body odor and heavily scented makeup products.
Now El-Sayed is piling on.
In an interview posted Sunday by MeidasTouch, journalist Jack Cocchiarella asked El-Sayed whether his Oval Office joke had been sitting in his head for a while — and whether the candidate had been thinking about Trump’s health.
El-Sayed, who holds a medical degree, stopped short of offering an actual diagnosis.
But he did make a pretty obvious joke.
“Watching those videos, and you’re just like… he can’t seem to keep it in!”
He then made it clear that if Trump wants to keep attacking him, he’s happy to return the favor.
“If he wants to comment on me,” El-Sayed said, “two can play at the game.”
### The White House fires back
The Trump administration didn’t exactly let the joke slide.
The White House responded by attacking El-Sayed over his political positions and past comments.
“Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed, who wants to massively raise taxes and defund the police, was just recently exposed for saying American football is ‘toxic masculinity’ and trashing Thanksgiving,” the White House said. “Everything this radical says is bullshit.”
And there it is.
