Donald Trump lost it Tuesday night after Fox News host Jessica Tarlov brought up gun laws following a deadly mass shooting in New York City.
Tarlov, co-host of The Five, had just finished an emotional tribute to the four victims killed in a Manhattan office building. Then she pivoted—asking the hard question: How did a man with a history of mental illness legally get a concealed carry permit and an assault rifle?
“How did he get a concealed carry license even in Nevada? How are these things happening?” Tarlov asked on air, clearly shaken. “You will never be able to stop all of the lunatics. But if you stopped this one, we’d have four people that were alive today who certainly deserve to be.”
The shooter, 27-year-old Shane Tamura, reportedly had a documented mental health record and was still issued a concealed firearm license by Las Vegas police. He used an assault-style rifle in the attack.
Tarlov’s call for common-sense gun control—especially a return of the federal assault weapons ban—didn’t sit well with Trump.
While she was still speaking on Fox News, Trump took to Truth Social to lash out: “I can’t stand Jessica Tarlov of THE FIVE. A real loser!!! DJT.”

Tarlov also quoted data cited earlier that day by New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, who blamed the attack on the lack of an assault weapons ban.
“This is happening because there are still assault weapons in our country,” Hochul said on CNN. “We had an assault ban weapon in our country for 10 years. It worked successfully… bring that back.”
Tarlov backed it up on The Five: “When we did have an assault weapons ban from 1994 to 2004, we saw a decrease in mass shootings in this country—70 percent less likely to happen. And then when the ban sunsetted, it spiked back up.”
She didn’t stop there. Tarlov later pointed out Trump’s slipping numbers in recent polls, blaming his hardline immigration stance and rhetoric around mass deportations.
“A lot of movement in the wrong direction for Trump,” she posted on X, sharing a CBS News poll showing his approval ratings falling.
Trump’s rage wasn’t new. He’s taken shots at Tarlov before—calling her “wacky,” “absolutely terrible,” and complaining, “her VOICE is grating and unendurable.”
Just last month, he posted, “Why does Fox News allow failed TV personality Jessica Tarlov to ‘soil’ The Five? Her voice, her manner, and above all else, what she says, are a disgrace to television broadcasting.”
But Tarlov wasn’t pushing a political agenda. She was pointing to a system failure that left four innocent people dead—and asking what can be done to stop it from happening again.
