President Donald Trump on Friday claimed credit for brokering a peace agreement between two African nations locked in years of violent conflict — then immediately turned the spotlight back on himself, complaining that he’ll never be awarded a Nobel Peace Prize.

“I am very happy to report that I have arranged, along with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, a wonderful Treaty between the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and the Republic of Rwanda, in their War, which was known for violent bloodshed and death, more so even than most other Wars, and has gone on for decades,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

He praised the deal as a major diplomatic victory and said that representatives from both countries would be in Washington, D.C., on Monday to finalize it. “This is a Great Day for Africa and, quite frankly, a Great Day for the World!” he added.

Congo and Rwanda have been locked in a deadly proxy conflict. Rwanda accuses Congo of supporting M23 rebels operating near the border. The violence has displaced hundreds of thousands and fueled regional instability.

But Trump didn’t stay focused on Africa for long. In the same post, he launched into a familiar complaint: that the Nobel Peace Prize will never go to him — no matter what he achieves.

“I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize for this, I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize for stopping the War between India and Pakistan, I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize for stopping the War between Serbia and Kosovo, I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize for keeping Peace between Egypt and Ethiopia (A massive Ethiopian built dam, stupidly financed by the United States of America, substantially reduces the water flowing into The Nile River), and I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize for doing the Abraham Accords in the Middle East which, if all goes well, will be loaded to the brim with additional Countries signing on, and will unify the Middle East for the first time in ‘The Ages!’” Trump wrote.

He ended the post with a sweeping complaint: “No, I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize no matter what I do, including Russia/Ukraine, and Israel/Iran, whatever those outcomes may be, but the people know, and that’s all that matters to me!”

Earlier in the day, Trump had already complained that “they only give it to liberals,” referring to the Nobel committee.

While the peace deal has yet to be officially signed, U.S. officials confirmed that Congo and Rwanda have agreed in principle to a plan aimed at ending years of hostilities. Trump insists the agreement was his doing — but for him, the lack of recognition still seems to overshadow the result.
