Elon Musk has caused a stir by endorsing a post that called Americans “too retarded” to take skilled jobs. The billionaire was caught up in a heated debate over the use of H-1B visas and the hiring of foreign workers instead of Americans. The post he liked was written by a pro-Musk account, which said:
“So basically the right split into two factions, tech right and right right, and the tech right is like “hey we need h-1b visa people to do the jobs,” and the right right was like “no you need to hire americans,” and the tech right is like “but you guys are retarded,” and the right right is like “well you don’t train us,” and the tech right is like “you can’t outtrain being retarded,” and while all this was going on we learned some people *really* don’t like Indians.
After reading this, Musk replied, “That pretty much sums it up. This was eye-opening.”
The response to Musk’s endorsement of the offensive post was quick and harsh. One person asked, “You just agreed with a post calling Americans retarded. Are you on drugs? This is absurd!”
Another user wrote, “You’re retarded, Elon.”
Someone else added, “What’s eye-opening is how much venture capitalists hate America.”
Another person said, “This whole drama about visas shows how much the ruling class of America looks down on its own people.”
Others joined in with similar comments, criticizing Musk for his stance. Some suggested Musk move his companies to India, and others said there’s nothing wrong with Americans wanting to keep their jobs instead of having them replaced by cheap foreign labor.
On the same day, Vivek Ramaswamy, Musk’s co-leader at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), also faced backlash. He had suggested that companies don’t hire Americans because of a culture of “mediocrity.”
Musk and Ramaswamy were recently announced as heads of DOGE by President-elect Donald Trump, but these comments have left some Trump supporters questioning their involvement in the new administration.
