On Thursday, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) outlined a series of conditions necessary for her support in raising the debt ceiling. These conditions include holding a vote for an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden, discontinuing the allocation of funds for what she considers as the misuse of government by Biden, discontinuing all COVID vaccine mandates and mandates in general, and ending congressional funding for the Ukrainian war effort.
During a town hall event in her home state, Greene addressed her constituents, sharing her concerns. She emphasized her strong opposition to funding Special Counsel Jack Smith’s investigations into former President Donald Trump’s actions related to the 2020 election and handling of classified documents, both of which have resulted in indictments. Greene posted a video clip of the town hall on Twitter, alongside her stated demands, underscoring her commitment to representing her constituents’ interests.
“I will not fund those things, and I thought it was most important to tell you all first, because I work for you. And that’s what we have to do,” the far-right lawmaker told the audience.
Her announcement comes after her removal from the House Freedom Caucus earlier in the summer, which had also issued its own set of demands, including ending prosecutions against Trump and addressing what they referred to as “woke policies” within the Pentagon.
