As Donald Trump’s second impeachment trial begins in the Senate Republicans are reportedly bracing for impact after reports that House Democrats will present new evidence that will make it hard for them not to convict Trump of incitement of an insurrection prior to the Jan. 6 Capitol siege.

According to multiple news outlets, House Democrats plan to reveal previously unseen evidence implicating the former president in the deadly attack.

CNN’s congressional correspondent Manu Raju reported that House impeachment managers are saying they are confident they have a “devastating” case against Trump. It is expected their case will include video footage of the rioters and testimony from people present at the invasion.

It is widely expected that Democrats do not currently have the votes to convict Trump. However, several GOP senators, including Sen. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, have suggested not every Republican who considers the trial unconstitutional has made up their mind on the merits and the new evidence could put pressure on them to convict the former president.
